'93 90cs quattro clutch trouble

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on some clutch troubles ive been having. It dosent seem to grab until the end of the peddle. I asked my friend who used to be a mechanic and he told me that it has a hydraulic clutch it and should re-adjust itself and if it is nearing the end of the peddle i have major problems. does anyone have any experience with this? thanks.

I'm not certain, but it sounds like it might be on the way out. With mine (93 16v FWD) to see if it was slipping I tried pulling away in fourth gear and as it did pull away and not stall it showed it was going. Not sure about that test on a quattro though.
