I have a problem with my Audi 80. Its developed a ticking noise from engine that seems to be getting louder.

It happens when its been running for 10mins or so

Any ideas??

sounds like lifters, Mine will tick for a few when you first start it. But then goes away and only does it when its cold out..Summer its fine. All my OLD audi's did it to but they lasted longer, more like 10 minutes.

Dumb question but maybe low on oil? If it does it after its already running sounds like oil issue? Pump?

I also had that ticking noise on a 80 1.8S. Turned to be the valve operating levers and their hydraulic adjusters. Anyway, the problem is 99% in the cylinder head - might be valves, levers, springs, spring discs, or even camshafts. Or you might have an oil problem, as pointed before.

Ticking from engine at about 2000 revs? Get your drive belts checked especially the timing belt. They may be loose. That was the problem with mine anyway.

Default I have that ticking

It seems to be one tick every revolution of the cam shaft, and it obviously gets faster and slower with the RPMs?

I'll check the timing belt tomorrow,

what are lifters, and how do you check/change them?

Thx
