A Problem With White Smoke

I have an Audi 80 1.9 TDI, 1992 and since 3 months now I have a problem of ecxesive white smoke getting out of the exhaust. It is not oil burn, but rather fuel (diesel) not burned well.
The temprature measuring on top of engine is not working properly because I can not read it from inside (it is always at 0).

The turbocharger works good. The problem showed immediately and not increasing with time.

What could be the problem and is there a way these two elements(Temprature and Smoke) connect to each other?
Is it a problem deriving from the injection systm?

I've checked at different service point but have had no ultimate answer and solution.

Any opinion or idea would be highly appreciated!

This sounds familiar.... I had a similar problem with mine recently, and it turned out to be fuse box related. There was a dodgy connection to the glow plugs which were working perfectly, but not being told to work when I turned the key!

When the car starts, does it sound lumpy like it's running on 3 cylinders? Is it emitting white smoke all the time, or just when cold? Does it run fine when warm?
