What is the best solution to the problem of the electical wiring fracturing internally on the run into the boot lid on the 80 16v.
I've been to a "specialist" garage (not main dealer, who are never going to get my custom again!) and they say a genuine replacement harness is £160+ and has to be chopped & modified to fit, and will still break in short order! This would seem to leave only a home made re-wire an option, has anyone come up with a solution more in keeping with the car? Also can anyone tell me where to find the buzzer that sounds when exiting & leaving something switched on? It started making a strangled sort of noise one day and by the time I got round to investigate it had packed up completely, so I'm totally in the dark as where to look,I think it may some sort of relay thing but I'm not sure. Looking forward to increasing my knowledge (and even possibly sharing some) in this place. Thanx Ian |

Had this problem myself on a 1989 80 1.8S. When the wires got cut, I just rejoined them and wrapped them with a *LOT* of scotch tape. Find a solid one, similar to the adhesive plaster they use in medicine (dunno how it's called :P ), so that it does not get cut when opening/closing the trunk.

Thanx A6, had to do this to get mobile again wilst away from home last christmas, and it's still holding (fingers crossed),although I had to use "chocolate" block connectors to join them and it's very bulky.I just wondered if any of the forum members had come up anything more professional looking. As the core wires are so thin inside the outer sheath I had thought of something like IDE cabling from a m board to HDD but never took it any further.

hi.
pull the rubber and cut the sick piece of loom. now take a new strong wire loom of 5 or 6 (cant remember)wires and just reconnect it one by one color to color. test to work and the use a piece of "finger" wide plastic home wire tunnel to protect the wires from the trunk close. tie all with plastice ties and you are good to go. avishay. |
