Lightbulb

I have just replaced the alternator and the battery in my 1990 Audi 80 and i dont know if this is suppose to happen but when i disconnect the battery the car dies. The battery light is on inside and like i said it is a brand new battery. I would like to know if there a voltage regulator some where that is not working or why this is happening.

It sounds like the car electrics are running on the battery. The alternator is not working!Check you have wired the alternator correctly, and that the belt is correctly tensioned.Disconnecting the battery while the engine is running can damage the alternator or regulator when the battery load is removed!
To see if the alternator is working, connect a voltmeter accross the battery with the engine running, give the engine a few revs, the voltage should rise a volt or two if the alternator is working.
