Quattro conversion ?

I need some adivce Audi guys, I have a Pristine 86 audi 5000 s , no rust good motor but a bad automatic. I also have a 87 5000 cd quattro that I got for a hundred bucks its a standard with the 2.2 turbo, leather seats and all stuff too. But its smashed up in the front corner. Is it worth it to try to convert the 86 to a quattro with all the parts from this car ? Has anyone done this before ? Any advice or comments welcome. Thanks in advance

Fearless.. I wouldn't try converting that 5000 over to a Turbo unless I was Completely Fearless.. Course I'm a conservative kind of guy. Now if the frame rails on the Quattro are still straight and the parts up front are relatively undamaged, such as hydraulic pump, and the car is clean that would make a rather exciting restoration project.

I think you can find a new transmission for the 5000 and quite cheap but the installation would need be handled by a reasonably proficient mechanic and if you are one that's great. It appears the result would be excellent being the car is rather immaculate.

not worth it... your looking at a load of work ahead of you heres what you could do... part out the smashed up one, you will get atleas 4000 for audi parts if your patient and in about 2-3 monthes you will have 4000, sell your other car and you will have a nice amount to buy a quattro.

Don't do it... it's not worth it..

haven't done a quattro conversion but I have done an auto to manual conversion on a 200 turbo..
it's a long time ago, and I did it in my spare time:

some things to remember

The auto vs manual have a different floor panel below the shift lever spot welded into the floor, this must be drilled/cut out and changed, as the auto type only has a small hole and grommet for a cable, no space for a manual shift linkage.

When you fit the pedals from the manual the (auto) foot-rest must be removed to get clearance for ther clutch pedal, so the carpet must be cut neatly or removed! and it is difficult to make good the carpet around this area after, it won't look right unless you change the whole carpet!

It's a bit of a back breaking excercise the work alone which must be done inside the car ( pedals etc), the easy part is fitting the gearbox.
