5000 Turbo Alternator Rain Problem

i have a 84 5000 turbo in good condition except for major electrical problems

but ive only owned it for a few days ive bought a new battery and it lost its charg in 1 day i heard that the alternators dont charg under wet conditions if any one has any knowledg of this or knows were i can read more about this i would be very thankfull

we reciently have had some wet weather here in Rhode Island and today i cheaked on me 5000 to see how shes been sitten (im waiting on a repair manual) & i noticed my batery was wet the terminal and the battery box not sure if this is do to the rain or some sign of a bigger problem the batery's positive is hooked up but the ground is not because fule pump is riged to allways be on. well any help would be great....
