Hello:
We are new to this discussion group. Although our 1988 Audi 5000 Quattro has over 300,000 miles on the meter, this car is the best. We are searching for a solution to a new hydraulic fluid leak related to the Power Steering Ram. The local repair company who has worked keeping our Audi alive comments that the Power Steering Ram is leaking serious quantities of hydraulic fluid. He indicated that a new Power Steering Ram will run approx. $1,000 plus labor, etc.. We are searching for alternatives to the purchase of a new Power Steering Ram. Has anyone rebuilt a Power Steering Ram? Are the rebuild parts readily available? We would appreciate any ideas. Thank you Hari |

:) Hi,
Go to www.autopartsworld.com to find the rack and pinion for your car. I have 1991 200 Turbo, and it costs something like $275 to get a rebuild one. I cannot believe the your garage guy told you $1000. Also local Kregan Auto Parts franchised store costs around $300. Hope this will help. |

www.napaautoparts.com shows one for 364.99 with a 39.33 core charge This would be a rebuilt unit. I am not sure what the labor would be to change it out.
A flat rate book should show a time for that. |
