Newbie - 1.6 FSI advice / information needed

Hi,

I am a newbie here. Currently looking at getting the new shape Audi A3 sportback and wanted some more information

I will most likely be going for a used early model (54plate/2004 model).

Currently looking at the 1.6 FSI engine, but not sure what this engine unit is like and whether it is a wise choice?! Can anyone who owns one with this engine please share what they think of it. Would they recommend going for this model?

I’m looking for a car that has a reasonable balance between power and being cost effective – in terms of day to day running and insurance costs.

I’ve only driven VAG cars (mainly VW’s), and most of the newer ones have always been underpowered in my opinion, and am not sure whether it will be the case with this engine as I assume it’s the same unit as in the MK5 Golf’s.

Also if someone could give me a rundown of what the common faults are with the earlier models of this shape (of this engine, or A3 sportbacks in general), as well as what to look out for?
