Smile none start 2.0 tdi 2007 model after overnight parked on slight incline

Hello 2.0 07 tdi drivers, have a problem with one cutomers car. When parked front up on slight incline overnight with quarter of a tank showing intermitant none start.Thats the fault and iam currently testing this vehicle but i cant get it to do it.Before you ask the fuel level is correct and no fault codes.Suspect fuel pump drawing air instead of fuel as pump may be slightly to high in tank. What iam asking for is some help from other late 2006 or current 2007 a3 none quattro 2.0 tdi drivers torespond with honest answers so i can compare. Also has audi assit visited you for this issue. Please only give full details of conditions ie started eventually and smoke from exhaust or didnt start until rolled back of incline.Regards jon

Hi there, did you manage to find a solution to this problem. I too have a 2006 A3 2.0 TDi Quattro Sportback.. its on a 55 plate which i have only had since January 2007. It has been in garage 3 times since then with the same problem you describe. The Audi dealer has had it in on each time and cannot find anything wrong with it. I have just picked it up today from the dealers and they are saying that it is a fault that Audi are aware of, but they havent found a solution, so cannot do anything about it. They have advised me to ring Audi UK direct to report problem to them.
Anybody else heard of this problem, and know where we stand

Many thanks

Hello mwasti, yes its sorted at last.found the cause to be air in the fuel lines intermitantly and had to replace everything on the fuel circuit as no exact location of the air bubbles could be found.I put mega hours into this and most off them were in my own time(unpaid)as the owners of the car were top people and i refused to give up.The decison to replace the fuel tank, fuelpipes, fuelpump, fuel filter housing and tandem pump was my call and sweat i did to the out come.its been 2 months now and not a peep out of it.Your case my or maynot be the same but dont bring it to me as i will top myself. We have just been payed for the parts from audi after i submitted my findings so i can relax now as this was buy back if i failed. A possible solution to your issue as i think the fault i fixed was a one off factory defect, look inside the fuel filter and see if there are any signs of oil deposits,if so post a picture and i will help you out

Thanks for your prompt response, do you suggest i take this matter up with Audi UK as suggested by dealer, or shall i suggest to them your resolution??
I really dont know where i stand with the car, are they likely to go the the expense that you did?
At the moment, i feel like i'm in limbo land, with a great car that i love, but with this recurring problem that i never know when it will strike next!!
Do you mind me asking, do you work at Audi dealers or an independent garage?
If you work for Audi, do you know who i am best to contact.??
I feel annoyed that the Audi dealers seem to be aware of this unresolvable problem, yet they are not advising customers about it.
many thanks

No i am from lancashire/mersyside.Ok get onto customer care and explain your issue and ring walefield and ask the master tech can he complete a DISS report for your fault with all the details and times the fault has occured. The report will be sent as a technical inquiry and a response will come back.Ask the master tech to keep you informed and ask for him to vist where you park the car to photo the incline to send with the report.Give all the info you can no matter how small so technical can build a picture. In my case i had to sort it myself but there are a few issues with fuel and oil mixing and the unit injector seals.Let me know and good luck

Just joined-hope I'm in the right area.
A3 2.0TDI made in Germany delivered in Australia. 8 months old 4.5k on the clock. Wife's car only driven to work & parked on LEVEL ground. Great on Friday, won't start on Monday?
At first thought it may be a 'protection fault' preventing start but oil level ok, battery ok, starter turns well but very rough vibration whilst turning the engine-no firing, no excess fuel smell from a layman's point of view.
Local Mechanic no better so towed to the Audi dealer-one day later-intermittent problem FINALLY showed up on the diagnostic machine-"looks like the fuel relay". Never happened before-part from Germany-2-3 weeks at least before back on the road.
Any input from the forum would be appreciated!
