A3 1.6 tuning

Hi,

I'm new round here, first post. I've recently bought a new Audi A3 Sport 1.6L. I love the car and have had Audi accessory skirts and exhaust fitted. However, the car isn't powerful enough. It is 100BHP, and I'm looking to modify, the only difficulty is that I cannot find a thing.

At the moment, the only thing I can find is a Superchip with an increase of 6BHP, whcih is reasonable. Yet I would like more performance.

If anyone knows of tuning accessories for the A3 1.6, I would appreciate it if they could point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Well, mate. Being completely honest with you, don't bother tuning that engine. The gains will be very low unless you are prepared to fit a turbocharger or a supercharger.

My advice, instead, is to save you money and in a year or two buy a turbocharged car, either diesel or petrol and then you will have more options if you like to tune your motor...

Any money spent on that 1.6 is not worth it... Again is my humble opinion...

Only problem is I have the car for another 3.5 years. And to be honest with you, I agree with not tuning it. However, at 100BHP its not fast enough and I think if I get the ECU upgraded or remapped and a K&N air filter, the performnce will be increased by about 15BHP. It doesn't sound much but relative to 100BHP engine, its a 15% increase, and thats not too bad for £350-400.

It is perfectly possible to put a turbocharger on that engine and the output would be around 160bhp. The problem is the cost of it and has to be done by a good tuner. Costs around £2000 I would say... Inquire some tuners though...

Pedro

P.S.: You could also upgrade the exhaust system, stainless steel manifold, to end backpipe... You can change cams it you want to change engine response, etc, etc. There is so much you can do in a petrol engine, problem is if it is worth it...

Regarding air filter go for a dinamic induction instead of normasl KN replacemente, check BMC products, for exhaust check supersprint.it

Thanks for your help mate. I found this K&N induction kit http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=57-0620 . And will probably get it. I'm not to sure about getting an ECU upgrade as I'm worried it'll wreck my car and will it ruin my Audi warranty?

If you could, could you please tell me what companies will do the bigger stuff such as turbo's, upgrade manifolds etc. I can see your point of view on cost, however, I would like to enquire and have a look.

Thanks.

To be totally honest, I dont believe that adding 15-20hps will make much of a difference anyway, especially since we are talking about naturally aspirated engines. In fact I believe that you might not even discern the difference should you be ginen to drive a 100 and a 115hps version.

The only solution is turbocharging imho. I own a 320i (150hps) and I dont find this car to be particularly fast, actually I d go as far as to say its sluggish. The other day I drove the Cooper S with 170hps and it felt sublime. I know , its lighter , 20 hps more and the such , but I believe the main difference is the turbocharger and not the adittional 20 hps. The torque you get is godly.

And thats my 2 cents.

Firstly, the air filter - do NOT fit any kind of K&N, or any kind of oiled foam filter. They will fcuk up your MAF.

Secondly, chip tuning - do not use SuperChips. There are considerably better chip tuners out there, for similar money. I would recommend using only a VAG-dedicated tuning company, such as REVO. REVO do a "switchable" map setting, enabling you to swap between the modified and standard settings (for trips to the stealer), and are "invisible" to the stealer!

Exhausts - Milltek Sport exhausts really are top-notch stuff. A nice deep "mature" sound, very high quality fit and finish, and the cat-back systems should give about 8bhp. A hi-flow sports cat should release about a further 5 horses.
