Default 2001 A3 Reverse Lights Problem

Hi, i'm sorry if this question has been asked before. I have a 1.9 tdi and the reverse lights weren't working when i purchased it. I got a mechanic to have a quick look at it. The bulbs are fine and so it the fuse. However, he said it may be an issue with the 'switch'. He's taking it in tomorrow morning and will have a proper look at it. Would this be a common problem with these type of cars? Should i expect to pay much if it is a switch problem?

Switch for around £20 easy to fix if you remove the air box.
