Default Noisy steering at low speeds

Hello
I drive a '97 A3 1.6 sport and I have recently noticed my sterring is really noisy when truning at low speeds (car parks and the like) expecially when turning left.
Anyone have any ideas what it could be?
cheers

hello pedderz, I had a noise comming from the front of my a3 only at low speed which tuned out to be a faulty tyre. Dunlop sp sport. I found flat spots on the tyre tread. A new tyre solved the problem for a month or two , but the noise is back now. except when i turn left.!! I still have a dunlop on the front and will swop it over later .
I hope this helps you

Check your steering fluid. It needs to be topped-off most of the time; if it gets a little low, you'll get noise.

thanks.
Will try swapping over my tyres (front to back etc) and top up the fluid and see what happens.

I say that because for some reason if my fluid gets below 3/4 full, it gets whiney and noisy. After topping it off and driving a couple miles, it's fine. Also, my 3.0 uses the green fluid, so be sure to use that. Most dealers will top it off for you at no cost; that's what I did.
