Hello
My car's just broken!!! ![]() I just climbed a steep hill and may have (but didnt hear anything) grounded at about 10mph as the road became flat again. Immediately after I could hear a grinding noise which sounded like something was scraping along the ground (but pretty damn loud!) I stopped to look but nothing was hanging down. So drove home immediately. Sound doesnt match engine revs and sometimes dies down. Is there a problem with the transmission??? Anyone had this happen??? I drive a 51 plate facelift 210 S3. Johnny |

Well Johnny old fruit it sounds as if you have blown a big hole in your transmission casing. The exact same thing happened to me at creamfields in my 2001 1.8 A3 Sport 20v. It clunked and clanged and got particularly worse when turning a corner. I had infact smashed the gearbox casing and produced a rather large hole in it that was invisible until the box was removed. Very costly job in the end. around £1100 for a recon box and labour. get it in the garage pal.

Hey
Don't worry I got it to the garage the next morning. As it happened at 10mph at a junction where a steep hill met a flat road, I didnt think it was anything that bad! It was just that a guard over the propshaft that had got bent so that it was in contact with the propshaft as it span. Mechanic just bent it away from the propshaft again, only £20 to fix ![]() |
