Default Engine whining

Hi,

I've just got my 1.8T quattro and when i gently accelerate and come off the accelerator I can hear a whining which sounds like something rubbing, as this is my first turbo im not sure if this is normal for them to do or if its something to look into. Anything is appreciated

Does it whine when only in gear or if you free wheel the car in neutral?? Do you think the sound is originating from the engine ??

It may be something simple like one of the breaks binding slightly to the disc if it sounds like rubbing !!

Its from when you take it out of gear and into the next gear, so while its in neutral inbetween. I'm pretty sure its from the engine but will listen out to see if its coming from the brakes, but not normal for a turbo then?!

I'll throw in my two pennies worth here. It sounds more like a clutch issue. Does it do it through all the gears? And does it do it whilst stationary and you just depress the clutch pedal whilst in neutral?

In which case, I would suggest it is a possible gear box issue, with something having worn. Try and get to a gear box specialist and let them have a listen. At least the listening bit won't cost you anything....
