Changing Orginal Gear Knob

Can anyone tell me how to change the gear knob on 98 A3 Sport. I have got the original off, and I have bought 2 different gear knobs that are a push down reverse but I have no luck fitting it.

Can anyone help?

Anyone who has changed theres then type of Gear Knob did they get?

Mickeybhoy,

I don’t know about 98 models but when I bought a 2006 version of Sports A3 a couple of weeks ago and I was interested to put a SE style gear knob in stead, my dealer said that it can’t be done. Which is I’m not sure of whether if there any technical difficulties or Audi just won’t do it. If it’s a “push down” type then I assume there shouldn’t be any problem, in principle.

Hi

Ive got a 97 a3 sport and ended up buying an original gear knob for it.
Momo do a specific gearknob and it costs £60.
its not just the knob on the end but also the plastic that sticks on to it!
Its a bummer!
