Heat Warning Light

Got a Audi A3 1.6se 1998
Goes lovely except for an annoying warning light comes on flashes and beeps when 4 secs anfter starting the car, add a cup of water the the reserve tank then fine for a day or two if I'm lucky , mostly comes on when idling the car or in traffic , took it to the mechanic and was fine for a week and a half then back again..

any ideas

Got exactly same problem, only used to happen when it was really cold outside. The warning light goes off once the engine has started to warm up... I too have tried adding water which got rid of the problem for a few weeks, but its back. Audi were totally unhelpful about this so any help gratefully received...

cheak all sensors and leads for signs of shorting

was under a full warranty , took it to the garage and found out the gasket was slightly on the go, water was mixing slightly with the oil etc.....

Changed now going like a BOMB
