Default Just Bought my 2001 Audi TT today

What a fun car. This raises some questions though. I think this car has an exhaust on it. It is the 6 speed 225hp model and i can definitely hear the exhaust. Its not obnoxious though. My question is how do i tell if the car has had a flash program installed? It pulls like all hell. I also get the abs esp light on and they reset when the car is turned off and back on so i am going to clean the maf tomorrow since that seems to be the fix.

I also have a question about maintenance. It has 55k on it. What all is included on the 60k maintenance? When should i do the water pump and timing chain? Rough estimate of cost? I looked today and i dont feel like pulling the motor to do that job and it seems that is whats required.

yes I think it is. Sad I have been a part of several other forums as they always seem like a good way to learn stuff about your ride but not here.

Hello Pollup;

I do have an 01' TT 225 HP and it chipped and since I am the first owner I know what it has. Unfortunately, there is no real way to check unless you have the chip removed and inspected (serial # etc). Since there are so many chips out there it's hard to tell how to check. One suggestion would be is to go to this website APR - Engineered Performance for Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche Vehicles and see their chip features and functions. If your car has the same processing and change features then 'bingo' you know you have that particular chip. If not, it don't necessary mean that you don't have a chip, just not that one.

In terms of maintenance, since it's a second hand car and if you don't have the full service history, your best bet is to take it to a dealer or to a reputable sport/mechanic shop for a check up.

Hope this helps

I'm new to Audi's as well but I will share with you what I learned.

From the dealer and people I have talk to on other forums you should replace the belt every 5 years or 60k miles because once they go they could damage the valves in the head. The TT engine is a interference design so the valves could collide with the pistons in the even the belt breaks. When you are replacing the belt replace the waterpump, tensioner, and pullies. Make sure the water pump is the kind without the plastic impeller and use one with a metal impeller as they last longer. My local dealer quoted me $850 for a complete timing belt job which includes replacing all the parts above, however I work on my own cars and it doesn't seem all that hard of a job to do, honestly.

If you need the write up's for the t-belt change just let me know and I will post up the links for you that I found. Enjoy your TT. What kind of gas mileage are you getting?

I'm glad you mentioned that little tidbit about the water pump. I live in Indiana and just found an experienced mechanic to do my timing belt and everything for around $600. This will be my first time taking the car into him so hopefully eh's as good as everyone has told me. I also have an 01 TT Quattro, but mine is at 120k miles and still drives great.

I'm looking to chip the car next. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good chip to get and/or what to look for? Thanks.

Also, does anyone on this forum autox their TTs? Just curious.

Hello Project921;

In terms of the chip, I have got an '01 TT and I have the APR Chip and it's an excellent chip, I am very happy with it and I know others who are. It is not overly aggressive (1.0 bar) so it is still within the operating range of the turbo for your engine, but the performance figures are astonishing.

It has a number of different settings which are all accessed via the cruise control stalk. They are about if not the best in the business here is the website APR - High Performance Development for Audi Vehicles.

Hope this helps

Get a boost gauge installed and you will be able to see what boost you are running and this will help finding out if you are chipped or not but to be honest if you have an exhaust that the chances are you have a chip.

I would say start saving for a full service now as 60k is around the correct mark for one and around 3-5k for a oil and filter change on a turbo car to keep it all sweet.
