Default System too Rich

As a follow up to an earlier post/problem, I replaced my MAF sensor with a brand new one, which seems to have solved the majority of my troubles with the car starting rough, setting off "System too Lean" alarms, and running rough on the road.

However, I am now getting P0172 codes "System Too Rich" and feeling a slight hesitation occasionally when accelerating. It's not nearly as bad as before, but makes me hesitant to drive much. Could this possibly be a bad O2 sensor?

I've been adding STP Octane booster to my gas and the thought occured that this might be causing the reading to be rich, which throws off the computer system during fuel/air mixture.

Anyone had a similar problem? Thanks for your help. I love the car and am hoping to work out these few small bugs.

Very Best!

Well the first thing your doing wrong is buying any additive for your fuel, these do not work, i say agin DO NOT WORK and in field tests and in most cases have actually reduced the BHP by as much as 3%

Try running down your fuel to nearly empty, filling it right back up to the brim with no additives and see how it goes. if it still has the same problems you have described it could be the O2 sensor of a Failing Coil Pack

Default Fuel Additives

It appears you're absolutely right. I ran the tank to near empty and refilled for a drive to St. Louis. After a full day of driving and running around town today, I haven't had a hint of trouble. No check engine light and no sputtering performance. I have to back you up on the fuel additives. They aren't worth the money and can cause a lot of frustration.

Thanks for the tips!

I did go ahead and run most of the gas through the system and since replacing with a tank of premium, I haven't had any trouble. Thankfully it was a cheap problem to fix.
