Default Common Problems

Hi all.

Well i think it's about time to start a list of common problems everybody has experienced since owning there TT, i will make a start with the following list.

Owned the car 6 months, and too date this is the problems i have had.

1. Fuel gauge not working and inaccurate. the whole dash pod had to be replaced at a cost of £900, this is a very common problem with Audi's and i think (please correct me) is now a recall on most models??
2. Banging from front of car. front anti roll bar is split and bushes terribly worn. bought a new roll bar and bushes for £90, but yet to fit as its a big job, dropping the subframe etc. again common problem with Audi's
3. started misfiring, loss of power, sounds like a tank. no 3 and 4 coil pack shagged, Audi charged me £90 to fix. very common problem, this things are very weak and seem to be the cause of lots of problems.
4. Mass Air Flow senser, probably my fault for installing an oiled induction kit, but neverthe less it's still should be one of the first thinks you check if you are having engine problems. i need to replace mine now, easily done at home, new MAF should be aroud £50-£60

Thats it so far, but im pretty sure i will be adding to this list shortly, am i considering selling my beloved TT....??? not in a million years, its all part of the fun of being an owner. The more we all get together and list problems hopefully it will help other owners to diagnose faults without being shagged up the ass by Audi with extortionate maintenance costs!!!

please all add your stories to this thread!

thanks.

did your front swaybar actually split in half? that would be crazy..

mine creaks a bit when i'm leaving my driveway..i'm hoping a polyurethane bushing will fix it..and i'll hopefully be able to install them without having to actually drop the front sway bar..

been having 02 TT for almost a year now. Reading your list scares me. Got my TT beefed up locally, i.e not bolt on kit. Never had problem whatsoevr. knock on the wood... three times. But of course i only use it leisurely.

WOW thats too bad. My TT is a 01 and the only problems have been a stuck CD in the changer and a brake light switch out.

Yes there was a known problem investgated by BBC Watchhdog programme that found an issue with some dash pods and these were then replaced by Audi for free. The BBC site only keeps the last 12 months of reports so could not find the link for you. You should be able to call Audi customer services (0800 number) from their website for advise

Would recommend that if your dash is changed that you request a copy of the diagonstic report for your records - Mine was changed by Audi though there is concern that they fitted the wrong one so my stereo display is not working.

Other problems I have come across for the TT:
Stereo volume problem - very common.
ESP light and ABS light come on - either due to brake light switch or longlitudinal acceleration sensor.
