Default All-Weather Tires (Pirelli vs Dunlop)

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and am hoping to receive a few comments on which tires are preferred by Audi TT drivers. I own a 2001 TT 180hp which was outfitted by the last owner with a set of Toyo tires on the front and Marshall tires on the back. The Audi manual says to always keep matching tires on front and back, so before snow/ice hit this winter, I want to replace these tires with a full set of All-Weather tires. I'd love to have winter and summer tires, but I can't afford it.

I like the Pirelli and Dunlop tires and am wondering if anyone has had experience with each tire and could recommend one for the best wear/dependability. I'm considering the P6 from Pirelli and haven't yet selected a particular Dunlop model, but my father had them on an old Porsche and they seemed to wear well.

Opinions on any other models are certainly welcome!

Thanks,

Nathan

Cool

I have sets of both; I took of the Dunlop’s and put on a set of Z rated- Pzero Neros by Pirelli. I didn’t get the life out of the tire I was expecting but the tires have been fantastic in the snow /ice. Driving in rain was almost completely un-noticeable and that’s in my TT Turbo Roadster. So if I had to rate the tires? The Dunlop’s have a decent wear factor but the Pirelli’s are more fun on the road! Incredible all weather traction.

Thanks for the response. I'm leaning towards the Pirellis, although I have heard they wear faster. Nonetheless, having some extra grip in Missouri snow and ice is always a priority. I appreciate the recommendation.

Cool

Ya I live in the Sierra’s in Cali and we get our shear of what they call “Sierra cement!” It’s super wet and incredibly miserable to have to drive in on windy twisty mountain roads. It can be a white knuckle experience, so we take tires seriously up here. Last winter and this isn’t no lie, but I can clearly recall nothing but 4x4’s & me in my TT Turbo Roadster Quattro. Everybody was looking at me like I was nuts. Little did they know I had better traction then they did!! I also have a friend in and AC Cobra club and they sheared a little trick they use in they're Cobras and thats just dropping the air presure in all 4 tires. Done In our TT's it makes you feel like your in a slot car. During the winter I ran 30 psi in front & 28 in back because there is less weight in the rear so the tires equal out. Then on dry roads the car is just amazing you can easily go over board and push your car to far! So if you do this keep in in the back of your mind.
