Default VAG-COM Software

Hi All.

Just thinking about purchasing the Vag-Com software and serial cables, one of the main reasons is so i dont have to pay extortionate prices for diagnostics from the local Audi garage (£60) is there any other benefits to having the software? can i tune the car?, is there a patch for power upgrades i can upload to the ECU? can i run the car and see real time power graphs etc?

Also i think i may have an air leak in one of the hoses, but yet to be able to find it, will the software be able to locate approx where it is?

Thanks, your help would be appreciated!

Cheers.

You can download the software free from rosstech website, so just need to buy the cable.. Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Download old versions for obsolete interfaces

The freeware version is good enough for diy diagnostics/resets etc but you wont be able to remap the ecu from it...

For remapping you will need a flash tuning box kit + tuned files from a reputable source at least + a program like winnols, i looked at doing this myself last year and trust me its easy to bugger a ECU if you dont know what your doing ...

HI T-Sport.

Thanks for your help, will def buy the cable now and just download the freeware sortware.
Also, dont think i will tinker with the ECU, as you said it a specialist thing and knowing my luck i will end up breaking the poor thing!!!!
As i mentioned, one of the main reasons is i think i have an air leak but cant bloody find it, will the freeware firstly diagnose it and secondly tell in which part of the system it could be in??

Thanks.

I bought the following cable and it works with the 409.1 version of VAG-COM:
USB KKL 409.1 VAG COM VW/AUDI OBD2 Interface Cable - (eBay item 330162965990 end time Sep-12-07 15:07:39 PDT)

It's cheaper... and it seems to get and clear the codes.
