Default central locking system

Hi
this is my 1st time posting on this site, I have a 2002 Tt . After making a stop , I returned back to my car to see the hazzards light flashing.
there were no damage and no sign of a breakin. I unarmed the lock/alarm and enter the car. hit the hazzard button to cut off the lights but they just came back on. the car will start and then cut off moments later. I finally pull the fuse for the hazzards. while waiting for help,(about an hour later), I tried the car again and it started.
my mechanic said it was my comfort control unit, which is also my central locking system. The unit is behind the passenger side seat.
It had came out of the holder and was held up by its connecting cables.
it look like a small mother board. there was some corrosion damage.
The corrosion was not new. This unit is seated under the carpartment the holds my top when it folds down and you can see water signs
My question is, has anyone had this type of problem before and is are these problems consistant with this unit
