Default Booo Hooooo!

Well it's been awhile since I posted, and this post brings only bad news! I was stopped at a light when a car pulled up next to me and started egging me on, edging forward (Ricer, didnt get the make because I ended up in front) so I turned off the car, grabbed my Revo software device, plugged it into the OBDC and turned her back on... Well I launched and the ricer didnt have a chance, but about 25 minutes later while going about 75MPH the temperature gauge started to rise well past center... So I kept driving and blasted the heat inside the car to take some off the engine... It worked in my old Oldsmobile so I figured it would work here, which it didn't. Eventually the car flashed the Thermostat symbol and starte dbeeping inside the Info Center Screen on the dash, so I drove another 20 minutes and stopped for the night.

I woke up the next morning and turned her over and all seemed fine, until I got up to around 70 MPH, then the car started overheating again. I drove it another 20 minutes to a shop and dropped her off.

I got a call the next day saying that the Radiator Temperature Sensor (Colling Sensor) was bad and the fans werent turning. So they replaced it for $270 including labor and I picked it up, well once again at 65MPH the car started overheating and I brought it back. They ran some tests and said that the engines have notoriously bad water pumps and think that might be a cause, and they also ran some dye through the engine to test to see if exhaust gas was coming through the colling system.

I received word that I had to have the Head Gasket replaced, Timing Belt (which is of no relation to this problem, just time to do it) and a water pump replaced. They quoted me $1700 for the whole kit and kaboodle...

I'm torn on whether to fix my car which is now out of warranty at 70K miles and keep her on the road, or have them seal the head for less money that will last a few months and trade her in on a new car...

Can anyone help make my decision easier by informing me if I should expect any further expences down the line after replacing all these goodies, or should this take care of most of the expensive repairs that have plagued the TT since its introduction. I love my car, but I cant keep dumping thousands into it....

Has anyone else experienced problems with this? How did you resolve it?

Thanks
-M

Default Unlucky!!!

Hi.

To be honest as soon as it started overheating you should have stopped, you might have saved yourself some cash!!! if your head gasket is needing changed there is a posibility your head could also be warped and required to be skimmed etc, i know in hindsight this is good advice but for anybody else out there, if it's too hot it's doing damage......STOP and find the problem!!

Cheers.
