I was going to rotate my new tires at 20,000 miles and noted extreme wear on the right rear inside and moderate wear on the left rear inside tire. My service rep just told me this was common on the TT. I just don't believe the Germans would design a car that needs new rear tires every 20,000 miles. I lived there for three years and they love their cars. Any advice?

Audi Quattros (any model) are regarded as having a pretty healthy appetite for tires. On the other hand, the uneven wear on your tires would indicate a bit of a problem. Have you ever hit any curbs or large potholes? As a first step, you may want to get the alignment checked.

I have had the car (cert pre-owned 2001) less than a year and it had new tires when I bought it which would mask any previous wear problems. Thanks I expect is is an alignment problem but wanted to check the field when the service guy told me it was common. I have two other freinds with TTs and yes they go through tires a little quicker but not uneven wear. Thanks for the quick reply. J

I have a 2001 TT and we just had the alignment checked for inside tire wear. I have also heard that this is a common issue. the previous owner was a friend of mine. he stated that the car was hard on tires as well. |

I have an 01 qutrro. rdtsr. --about 9 months now (bought w/ new tires). Noticed substantial neg. camber on both rear whels. Asked several mechanics who inssited its normal on "that kind of Audi". Something about cornering, etc.
I was told not to fool with it and just rotate every 3-4 k mi. |

Just have the wheel alignment checked, and see if your rims are still round, I went throught three sets of tires and trushed the origal rims, NY roads suck, but thats just me.
If you have a bent rim, it will affect the drive of all the tires, if its a Quattro, Picture yourself doing mini Slaloms at a fast pase, after a while assuming you ignore it, it start to sound like a rumble in the tires, then a bounce, very annoying. |
