ok guys i hit a curb the other night and when i did it i put a whole in my oil pan about 1" by 3" long. but right where i put the whole there was a gear there with teeth that had a chain around it... well when it hit it popped the chain off the gear and smashed all the teeth. can someone please explain to me what that exactly is with the teeth and how much damage there is involving that. also if they kno whether it will be expensive to fix that? thanks guys any help would be appreciated

That's the oil pump, unfortunately. I don't know the exact price, but for my engine it's somewhere around $250. You might be able to get the gear separately, for something like $30. But you should check if it's only the gear affected.
