How about in the fuse box to the left of the dash?

well after alot of research and questioning ALOT of tt owners i found out that the relay is part of the emergency flasher button assembly and the radio needs to come out so its off to the dealer i guess

Getting the radio out is not a problem, mine does not seem to have any kind of latching mechanism and just slid out. I had a tape cassette stuck and removed it myself. The wires are all modular plug-in and so easy to remove and replace back correctly.
<_<
There is not much room in this bay to manouver though and I suspect that the radio bracket will be in the way of the relay assembly which would make it a little more tricky. I would double check that this is the route in. I would have suspected that it is via the cubby or through one of the panels either side of the driver or passenger footwells. Let us know.... some photos would be handy if you can post any.
