Mod Audi Tt

I have a 2001 Audi TT that has APR exhaust and chip. It also has 13" Brembo brakes on the front. The car has a aftermarket front end and 18x9 Ronal wheels. Im running around 280 horsepower and i saw yesterday a electric supercharger for an Audi TT. This supercharger gives 50 more horsepower. HAs anyone put one of these in their car. If so did it really help the car?

however... if its only $50.. and should be pretty easy to hook up.. buy it and write up a review. I'll post it to the board.

Ok....electric supercharger? This is gonna take some explaining. How does it differ from a standard supercharger (the details of which are a bit sketchy with me anyway)?

a standard supercharger is powered by the engine pulley... as RMPs increase, the pulley spins faster which in turn spins the supercharger faster. this lets the supercharger force more air into the carb. a turbo is basically the same idea, however its powered by exhaust gasses. The fumes flow through the turbo fan which runs a compressor to pump air into the cylinders.

I suppose an electric supercharger… would basically be an electric air compressor fitted to the carb somehow… actually.. You could just hook up your compressor to the intake to pull more air through. I cant imagine one of these being able to produce a real psi increase.. Maybe that’s why they’re only advertising +50hp

It seems a bit redundant to me to run a supercharger and turbo then. They appear to be much the same, although $50 for an increase of 50hp seems like quite a good deal. I am assuming it is really just an added boost. I gotta say though, I am always a bit sceptical of something like this though, especially in the context of my recent engine troubles.

Bluerunner, I am interested to know which TT you have - the original specs?

i forgot you're talking about a 1.8T.... in this case.. i really woulndt sugest changing the boost w/o upgrading the turbo or something.. i mean.. lets be honest when the turbo puts out more boost its okay... but when more air is going into the ECU wants (or knows about maybe?) you may run into a problem. the "supercharger" we're talking about mounts after the mass air flow sensor.. meaning the ECU would have no idea how much air is being crammed into the carb. sounds sketch to me :blink:

I been doing a little more on line research on the turbo/supercharger thing and have a bit of a clearer understanding. The problem is that most of it came by wading through commercial sites but I have not been able to find out anything specific about the TT turbo system on my car. I am more curious on that front, any pointers to decent sites Brad, or can we plumb the depths of your knowledge some more?
