Hey Plumb
First things first... the "chips" (4 or 5 wires coming out of a box of some kind) that is sold on eBay is crap! All these things typically are is a resistor or some very basic electronic components that interfere with the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor's signals. It is NOT a performance chip. A real performance program (or chip) is actually inside your car's ECU (Engine control Unit) and consists of program changes to the car's ignition maps to enhance power output. I have most of the chipmakers listed on
http://www.VAGLinks.com under "Performance Part Vendors" (please send me new ones if you find any), don't get taken for a ride by the eBay crap. Let me add that if someone on eBay is selling a software change, they might be legit, but no modern chip works with a few wires, tust me. The other thing to keep in mind if you are buying the software from a small no-name place is how safe it is. Remember they can severely damage your engine with incorrect tuning, so IMHO I would not gamble with that. Rather stick with the guys that have been doing it for a long time and have their reputations on the line. Unfortunately these are probably the 300 pound guys...
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Massboykie
