i also had some fitment issues... fitting aftermarket wheels can be tricky. here is what i can tell you.

- on a b7 a4, your offset range is 35-42mm
- bolt pattern is 5x112 (you already know that)
- the widest wheel you should put is 8.5"
- the tire size you use is dependent on your vehicle (aftermarket suspension, aftermarket brake kit, etc.) if your vehicle is lowered you could play it safe with 235 tyres, but 245's would fit as well.
- with some mods, inc. spacers and/or wheel well liner modifications, and proper tire selection, you can make a lot of different wheels fit.

i guess the moral of the story is that its complicated. but i just got finished going through it, so if you have any specific questions, let me know and i might be able to help you out. unfotunately, if you purchase a wheel with all the right specs, its not necessarily going to fit out of the box. audi's have big brakes stock, so unless you are buying wheels specifically made for audi, there is a good chance you may have to make some mods.

good luck.

ps - check out VMR Wheels by Velocity Motoring - Aluminum Alloy Wheels for German Cars. they make wheels specifically for audis and test fit them to assure proper fit.
