Not sure what you mean by tight? The box lid has a damper attached, or should have if the fixing pin is not broken. When the damper is not attached, when you open the lid, it will drop quickly. What should happen is you open the lid and let it go, do NOT pull the lid down as this is what seems to break the pin that attaches the damper. If the damper has detached the light will not work as the switch is part of the damper mechanism. If the damper is working, the lid should take a couple of seconds to gently drop open under its own weight.
