Hi, I guess they should run at 90 deg. C - right in the middle of the temp. guage.
I doubt it's a major problem - just check that the fans come on when you have been idling for a while.
I've recently bought a 1993 Audi 80 tdi and that too sits at 80 deg. C !
I don't really think there is a problem - I don't really trust electrics that are 15 years old! I replaced a temp. sensor on my old vw golf mk3 because it only read 70 deg. C when warm, then with a new sensor, it read 95 to 110 deg. C ! My mechanic checked it out and said the engine was running fine - probably down to the old electrics (combination of old wiring and guage combined with brand new sensitive and accurate sensor!)
