I've done a quick search on the fourm and can't find anything similar to my question.

Basically, I've noticed that there is a humming / growling and I've spoken to a friendly mechanic who says that the bearings are going. He also warned me that this will be out of my domain for having a DIY job. I think on this occasion, he may be correct.

Could somebody give me an approximate cost (parts and work time) for such a job?

It's a 1995 Audi A4 1.8.
