The workshops say cud b due to a few things; ABS pump, sensor, control board, brake switch... I had a similar issue on my '96 A4 after I had changed the rear discs & brake pads, I had not replaced or refitted the ABS ring sensor which sits on the inside of the disc. Have the discs been changed at all?
