I am going to replace the purge valve without clearing the code, and just wait a couple of drive cycles. From what I understand, after 4 drive cycles the check engine light will turn off, and after 40 drive cycles the history of the code will erase? So after a week or so if the light remains on, it must be something else I suppose. I wouldn't care about the purge valve either but my registration is pending state inspection...
