My non-technical answer - it's a thing of the past (past being way back to 1997 when the B5 had the 1.8T). There are many many discussions over the last 10 years in regards to a turbo timer. In a very brief summary, my understanding is that (i) it's a low-pressure turbo (as opposed to the massive turbos that WRXs have) and (ii) it's designed to not need a turbo timer. In my ten years of owning a turbo A4 (B5, B6 and now B7), I've not had any trouble with parking, shutting down, and leaving the car - including back in my 'younger days' of owning the B5 when, by stopping and shutting down, I mean stopping after travelling in warp speed then jumping out of the car.. with the brakes and turbo probably still glowing!! ;-) Alas, I'm more sensible now... probably age catching up... but in any case hope my summary helps - no need to worry about a turbo timer...
