The A4 can sit on 19" rims easily without affecting the drive or handling and i really dont think the extra inch is going to affect your km reading, never heard that one before lol ..
You dont state wether it is the SE or Sport model you have as there is a difference in the cars ride height.
I would say in my opinion 18" would look a little better- wider stance than 17" and fill the arches a bit more.
I upgraded from standard 16" to 18" and wish i had gone 19 " now as mines the SE and theres still loads of room in the arches so i think a lowering kit(coilovers) for me next !! . Any pictures of the alloys you have to choose from ??
