Any ideas what might be causing this??

From PETERBOROUGH to York on friday I had two instances of power loss. one the passenger did not notice and the other caused the car to judder. On the way back on sunday I had four instances. Each became more pronounced than the previous. On the last the car free wheeled for quarter of a mile in the slow lane of the A1 until I managed to pull into a layby. The AA came. Although we could get power back to the wheels it still cut out so I had a recovery home. This morning the car has worked OK on a 5 mile journey into the office. The AA connected its Crypton computer to the car but no faults were detected.

Car mileage is 24k
