first of all you have I think the most sophistigated and best 4weel drive car you can buy and drive today as have I (2001 allroad 144k km) The compressor is programmed to run only if the car runs atleast 30km an hour (so you have the luxery never to hear it run!) I have all the techinical manuals that were ment for internal audi use only.
Ask sobody to drive and listen near spare tyre while driving say 50 km/hour and you can hear te compressor
or find fuse and make indicator light.
If compressor runs al the time get the leak fixed or you will need a new compressor soon.
