Thumbs up 1.8 T Shifting RPM's

Hi all,
I am new to the Audi world and have just purchased an A4 1.8T 6 speed Avant Quattro. A little history---I have been a Cadillac for over 25 years and lived north of Boston until 2 years ago.We now live in the AUDI-roncacks and felt we needed a real snow machine for the winters up here.
So far the car has been a lot of fun but have heard of the sludging problems on this forum, I read that excess "lugging" of the engine .can be one thing that contributes to the sluggung problem.
So now I am wondering , at what RPM range is best for this 4 cyl. engine to be shifted? I know that smaller engines can withstand higher RPM's but I don't want to abuse the car (or wast fuel), also, my wife drives the car on short trips to work everyday.( less than two miles)
