My 2008 Avant 2.7 TDI is my first diesel and I think it's very smooth for a diesel. Have not tried the 2.0L so can't comment on that. No strange noises except that the wheels are quit hard and noisy. My old C5 was alot quiter in that area.

Have only done some 300miles yet so cant comment on the oil issue either, I did have a C5 2.4 that drank alot of oil...I think its a shame that a new premium car should have such a oil consumption.

I have Tiptronic and can confirm that the handbreak needs a tap on the gas pedal to release. I think it says so in the manual as well.
