I don't know if this is help or not, but I have a 2006 A4 2.0 TDI Avant which I have found difficult to drive smoothly from new due to a clutch judder in first gear when starting from rest. I don't feel any vibration in the clutch pedal however.

I think the engine is fairly rough at idle, but the low down grunt and the excellent fuel economy make up for this. Perhaps the rubber engine and gearbox mounts are going a bit soft.
