Default brake and power problem Tdi130

bit of a long one this, but after any help i can..

serviced my car at the weekend, oil, filters etc. also was due its 2 year brake fluid change. along with new rear pads.

now the car has a severe lack of brakes.

while the car is off, the pedal becomes hard after 1 - 2 pushes... while driving, i can press the pedal once, but if i lift and press again, the pedal is hard with no assistance at all! takes a lot of stopping.

also the car has no power, and can sit at 2,000rpm with foot to the floor and nothing!...

tonight i/we checked a few things, and found that after hardening the pedal whilst not running, and then starting the engine the pedal does not fall (as it should). also ,if i keep the brake pedal down i can push the accelerator fully to the floor and it have no effect on the engine speed at all!

we did drain the brake fluid during the service, and refilled and bled the system... but i'm really scratchin my head, are the two problems related? is it some kind of servo problem? where do i go from here?

any help is greatly appreciated!
