I would look to quote out a repair from someplace that will warranty the work for a while. 3 mos is ideal, but hard to find. I have seen quotes of 1k to 1,800 U$D.
When in the service position, it makes sense to do the water pump and some other work as well. That is probably why the total cost is so much higher.
