What colour is the grease?

If it is an opaque dark grey graphite colour, then you have a damaged CV joint boot. This will need sorting ASAP - if you get to it quickly, then you are looking at just a boot change (£10 + labour), whereas if it gets left, the joint itself will wear, and you could be looking at a complete new joint (£100 or so + labour).
