A power boost valve should give you a bit more of an initial kick. FSE sell one which gives a spike of fuel when you press the throttle pedal (approx 1.7 times the normal fuel pressure). They're fully adjustable, so will need setting up with gauge when its fitted. You're fuel pressure should be 3 bar (if its the same as the turbo engines) so with the valve on you'll get a burst of about 5 bar before settling back down to 3.
If you buy one off the shelf, they're £60-£100, but Ebay usually have a few used ones on for much less

As for cleaning the engine, don't use a steam cleaner. If you must clean your engine bay, use a de-greaser on a rag. Much safer.
